Why Gold Bar Prices Differ from Gold Rates in Bahrain

· MSS Gold Bahrain

A gold rate tells you the price of a quantity of gold. A bar price tells you what you pay for a finished product in a particular weight. At MSS Gold Bahrain, the selling price includes the gold value and the premium for that bar. That is why multiplying a headline gram rate by ten will not necessarily give you the price of a 10g bar.

For an order, start with the price shown for your chosen bar on our live price page. The example below explains the difference using MSS prices recorded on 19 September 2026; it is not a live quotation.

Three prices that are easy to confuse

1. The international gold spot price

The spot price is a market reference for gold, commonly quoted in US dollars per troy ounce. One troy ounce is about 31.1035 grams. A dollar-per-ounce quote must be converted into the right currency and unit before comparing it with a Bahrain retail price.

It is not an offer to deliver a sealed MSS 10g bar at that exact metal value. Producing and selling individual physical bars involves costs beyond the gold itself.

2. The displayed gold rate per gram

A gram rate is useful for understanding the market, but check its purity and how it is calculated. An 18K jewellery rate is not a like-for-like comparison with a 24K, 999.9 gold bar.

On the MSS website, the displayed 24K gram rate includes a retail allowance associated with our 100g pricing. It is therefore not the raw international spot price, and it is not a universal price per gram for every bar size. Smaller bars have their own premiums.

3. The selling price of your MSS bar

This is the price shown against the specific weight on our homepage and its product page. It includes the premium for that size and the rounding used in the final quote. Use this product price when comparing the cost of buying a 5g, 10g or 20g bar.

A dated example: the MSS 10g bar

Prices recorded on 19 September 2026 at 7:58 pm Bahrain time. We took these figures from the MSS homepage with Bahraini dinars selected. It was a Saturday, so the site was using its latest available market quote, rather than a new weekend trade. These figures stay here as an explanation; they do not update automatically, and future prices can change.

Recorded MSS prices in Bahraini dinars (BD)
ItemAmount
24K gram rateBD 53.314 per gram
10 × gram rateBD 533.140
MSS 10g barBD 553.000
DifferenceBD 19.860

The calculation is BD 553.000 − (10 × BD 53.314) = BD 19.860. That difference reflects the 10g bar’s pricing relative to the displayed gram-rate reference, including rounding.

BD 19.860 is not the bar’s entire premium over raw spot. The displayed 24K gram rate already contains a retail allowance. Calling the difference the full spot premium would mix two different reference prices. It is also not a separate charge to add to BD 553: the recorded selling price already includes it.

What does a gold bar premium cover?

The premium is the amount above the underlying gold reference that forms part of the finished bar’s selling price. In physical bullion retail, it can cover manufacturing, packaging, handling, distribution and the seller’s margin. It is not all profit, and it is not a measure of how pure the gold is.

A 5g bar and a 20g bar each need to be made, packed and handled as an individual item. Spreading those costs over more grams helps explain why larger weights generally have lower premiums per gram. This is a pricing explanation, not an itemised breakdown of MSS’s costs.

Why a larger bar can cost less per gram

At the same recorded MSS prices, the 5g bar was BD 289, the 10g bar BD 553 and the 20g bar BD 1,091. Dividing each selling price by its weight gives BD 57.800, BD 55.300 and BD 54.550 per gram, respectively.

The larger bar costs more in total because you buy more gold, but less for each gram. The gold specification remains 24K/999.9. Smaller bars may still suit a smaller purchase budget, separate gifts or keeping your holding in individual pieces.

For the full comparison of one 20g bar with four 5g bars or two 10g bars, see our MSS gold bar size guide.

Five checks before comparing two gold prices

  1. Match the weight and purity. Compare the same grams and the same gold specification.
  2. Match the currency and unit. A US-dollar troy-ounce quote and a Bahraini-dinar gram rate need conversion before comparison.
  3. Check the time. A screenshot from yesterday and today’s product price may reflect different market quotes.
  4. Compare the complete selling price. Establish what is included and whether any additional charge applies to your order.
  5. Check the product and seller. Review the packaging, invoice and verification process as well as the price. Our MSS authenticity guide shows what to look for.

Does the premium come back when you sell?

Do not assume you will recover the original premium. A future buyback quote depends on the market and the buyer’s terms at that time, including any inspection requirements. The purchase price and resale quote are separate figures. Ask MSS for the current terms before buying if resale is part of your plan.

Is the premium added again when I order?

The displayed bar price already includes that bar’s premium. Confirm the final total when ordering; do not add the article’s example difference a second time.

Why might the price stay unchanged over the weekend?

When the gold market is closed, the website can retain its latest available market quote. That does not make a saved screenshot a guaranteed price for a later order. Check the current product quote and confirm it with MSS.

Is a lower premium the same as lower purity?

No. Compare the stated fineness separately. MSS’s gold bars are listed as 24K/999.9; a difference in premium between weights does not change that specification.
